WHAT?

Over 1 million Kentuckians have PREDIABETES, but most do not even know it! (CDC estimates applied to Kentucky population)

WHAT IS IT?

  • PREDIABETES means blood glucose (sugar) levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to diagnose diabetes.
  • Many people with PREDIABETES may develop type 2 diabetes within 5 years, if measures to prevent it are not taken.

GOOD NEWS!

  • Research has proven that the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC’s) National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) can delay or reduce the risks of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for those older than 60).
  • Kentucky has sites offering the National DPP and the number is growing!
